EEM CONFERENCE 2012

The SIGNIFICANCE of the RESURRECTION of Jesus Christ

By Dennis Carroll

THE RESURRECTED JESUS WAS THERE IN THE PAST:

            1. HISTORICAL FACT OF HISTORY

            2. DOCTRINAL POINT OF THE ÒCHURCHÓ

            3. ORTHODOXY REQUIRES THE STATEMENT

            4. IT IS PART OF THE ÒGOSPELÓ

1 Cor. 15:1 Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand,

1 Cor. 15:3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,

1 Cor. 15:4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

The Resurrection was preached in the book of Acts as part of the Gospel.

            5. THE NATURE OF THE EVENT

                        A. THE DEAD PHYSICAL BODY OF JESUS WAS CHANGED INTO A GLORIFIED BODY

1 Cor. 15:42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable {body}, it is raised an imperishable {body};  1 Cor. 15:43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power;

He had a real body of  Flesh and Bones, and could be seen, and could ascent.

THE RESURRECTED JESUS WILL BE THERE IN THE FUTURE:

            1. A SIMILAR RESURRECTION FOR ALL BELIEVERS:

1 Cor. 15:51 Behold, I tell you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

1 Cor. 15:52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.

            2. A PHYSICAL RESURRECTION OF ALL PEOPLE:

John 5:28 "Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs shall hear His voice,

John 5:29 and shall come forth; those who did the good {deeds} to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil {deeds} to a resurrection of judgment.

THE RESURRECTED JESUS IS THERE IN THE PRESENT:

            1. INTERCESSOR

Heb. 7:25 Hence, also, He is able to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

            2. HIGH PRIEST

Heb. 4:14 ¦ Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.

Heb. 8:1 Now the main point in what has been said {is this}: we have such a high priest, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,

Heb. 9:11 ¦ But when Christ appeared {as} a high priest of the good things to come, {He entered} through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation;

            3. ADVOCATE

1 John 2:1 My little children, I am writing these things to you that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous;

            4. POURED OUT THE HOLY SPIRIT TO HIS PEOPLE

Acts 2:33 "Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear.

IS THE RESURRECTED JESUS HERE IN THE PRESENT?

THOSE WHO DO NOT NEED A RESURRECTED JESUS TO BE SAVED:

            1. REFORMED THEOLOGY RELIGION

A. Man is Viewed by God as having the Righteousness of ChristÕs obedient life imputed to the believer, and for this reason, God relates to the believer as righteous, because of the Righteous obedience of Christ while He was a man on earth.

B. The punishment that the believer deserved was experienced by Jesus on the Cross, and for this reason, the punishment that the believer deserves will not be executed upon the believer.

                        C. A Plus B equals salvation, or Justification, in the Reformed Theology.

D. Therefore, there is no necessity of a Resurrected Christ for salvation, only for orthodox doctrine.

            2. ROMAN CATHOLIC RELIGION

A. The bread/wafer in the ÒEucharistÓ becoms the literal body of Jesus Christ that died on the Cross.

B. The wine/juice in the ÒEucharistÓ becomes the literal blood of Jesus Christ that died on the Cross.

C. A plus B, when eaten and drunk, equals the impartation of Grace, and therefore salvation.

D. Therefore, there is no necessity of a Resurrected Christ for salvation, only for orthodox doctrine.

            3. SOCIAL GOSPEL

                        A. FOLLOW THE EXAMPLE OF CHRIST OF BEING A GOOD PERSON.

                        B. GANDHI:  ÒI LIKE THEIR CHRIST, I DONÕT LIKE THEIR CHRISTIANSÓ.

WHY THE RESURRECTED JESUS MUST BE HERE IN THE PRESENT

FOR ANYONE TO BE SAVED.

THE MORAL GOVERNMENTAL CONDEMNATION,

AND PARDON OF THE SINNER:

EXECUTIVE BRANCH

JUDICIAL BRANCH

LEGISLATIVE BRANCH

RESPONSIBILITY

RESPONSIBILITY

RESPONSIBILITY

The ÒGovernorÓ

The ÒJudgeÓ

The ÒLawgiverÓ

It upholds the Law by Dispensing Rewards for obedience or Executing Punishments for Disobedience

It passes Judgment upon a Lawbreaker after a Just trial based on evidence.

Pronounces the ÒGuiltyÓ verdict, and declares the ÒPenaltyÓ that is due according to the Law.

It passes all Laws with the proper Rewards for obedience, and Punishments for Disobedience.

When a Guilty and Condemned Criminal is transferred to the Executive Branch, the Executive has the AUTHORITY to do one of two things:

1. Execute the Penalty/Condemnation

2. Grant a Pardon

When the Judicial passes the Verdict of Guilty upon the convicted Defendant, and pronounces the Condemnation, that is, Penalty of Death, its authority is finished.

When the Legislative Branch passes a law with sanctions(rewards and punishments specified), its authority is finished.

<———

A Pardon is also call Forgiveness.

It is an act of ÒMERCYÓ

The Jurisdiction of the Guilty and Condemned is then transferred to the Executive Branch for the Execution of the Condemnation/Penalty.

<——

If a Criminal who is Condemned to ÒDEATHÓ by the JUDICIAL BRANCH, Receives a Pardon through the Mercy of the Governor, the result is ÒLIFEÓ

HOW

DOES GOD GIVE ÒLIFEÓ TO A PERSON

WHEN HE EXERCISES ÒMERCYÓ AND

GRANTS A ÒPARDONÓ OR ÒFORGIVENESSÓ.

THAT IS THE ETERNAL 64 GAZILLIAN DOLLAR QUESTION !!!!!

IMPORTANT TERMS TO UNDERSTAND:

PARDON IS THE GOVERNMENTAL WITHHOLDING OF THE EXECUTION OF THE PUNISHMENT.

FORGIVENESS IS THE SAME AS PARDON.

THE EXERCISE OF MERCY BY THE GOVERNOR, RESULTS IN PARDON/FORGIVENESS

MERCY IS AN ATTRIBUTE OF LOVE.

PARDON/FORGIVENESS ÒRELEASESÓ THE CONDEMNED PERSON FROM EXECUTION OF THE PUNISHMENT.

MATTHEW 18:  JESUS EXPLAINS MERCY AND FORGIVENESS

Matt. 18:25 "But since he did not have {the means} to repay, his lord commanded him to be sold, along with his wife and children and all that he had, and repayment to be made.

Matt. 18:27 "And the lord of that slave felt compassion and released him and forgave him the debt.

Matt. 18:32 "Then summoning him, his lord *said to him, 'You wicked slave, I forgave you all that debt because you entreated me.

Matt. 18:33 'Should you not also have had mercy on your fellow slave, even as I had mercy on you?'

Matt. 18:35 "So shall My heavenly Father also do to you, if each of you does not forgive his brother from your heart."

            THEREFORE: MERCY ———>RELEASE ———>FORGIVENESS

RESULT?   THE SERVANT HAD ÒLIFEÓ—

WAS ABLE TO STAY WITH THE KING

INSTEAD OF ÒDEATHÓ—

SEPARATION FROM THE KING, SOLD INTO           SLAVERY AS PUNISHMENT.

HOW DOES GOD:

            1. EXERCISE MERCY

            2. RESULTING IN PARDON/FORGIVENESS,

            3. RESULTING IN LIFE

            4. AND WITHHOLDING THE DEATH PENALTY?

HERE IS HOW GOD, THE GOVERNOR, PARDONS THE CONDEMNED SINNER, RESULTING IN LIFE:

UNION WITH CHRIST

UNITED TO CHRIST

Eph. 2:4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,

Eph. 2:5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),

Eph. 2:6 and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly {places}, in Christ Jesus,

Col. 2:12 having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.

Col. 2:13 And when you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions,

Col. 3:1 If then you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.

1 Pet. 1:3 ¦ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

1 Pet. 3:21 And corresponding to that, baptism now saves you-- not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience-- through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

Rom. 5:10 For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

Rom. 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 Cor. 15:16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised;

1 Cor. 15:17 and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.

Gal. 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the {life} which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and delivered Himself up for me.

1 John 5:11 And the witness is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.

1 John 5:12 He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.

John 15:4 "Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, so neither {can} you, unless you abide in Me.

John 15:5 "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing.
